Choosing a Real Estate Agent

Buying a home is a fun and exciting time in one’s life, however, it can quickly turn into a stressful and expensive endeavor if you don’t have a qualified Real Estate Agent to guide you through the process. Here are some things to look for when choosing a Realtor who can effectively guide you through this exciting process:
  • Personality:  Home searches are very personal, therefore you need an Agent who understands your needs and wants, and has the patience, intuition, and ambition to find the right home for YOU – not just a house that works on paper, but a home that works for life.
  • Market Knowledge:  Much of buying a home is a numbers game.  Your Agent should understand the past, current, and future projected trends on the national, state, and local levels.  They should understand how much a house is actually worth on today’s market, and why or why not a certain property is or is not a good deal for you.
  • Financial Knowledge:  You will most likely be working with a financial specialist in order to secure a mortgage, but since financing is generally a very integral part of buying a home, your Agent should have an understanding of this process.  A good Realtor will know where interest rates lie, and help you to understand the process of applying for and securing your mortgage.
  • Experience:  While years of work may look like experience, the fact of the matter is, sometimes the most experienced and knowledgeable Agents aren’t always the oldest veterans.  Experience means the Agent has learned a great deal during his/her career and can effectively apply that education to any situation that may present itself.
